Salary Calculator

Compare job offers quoted on different bases by converting any pay figure into hourly, daily, weekly, monthly and annual equivalents.

Fill in the fields above and select Calculate to see your result and the full working.

Please note: Financial calculators produce estimates using the figures you enter. They exclude fees, taxes, insurance and rate changes unless a field asks for them. They are not financial advice — confirm any significant decision with a qualified adviser or your lender.

Formula used

Annual = hourly × hours per week × paid weeks; every other basis is derived from the annual figure

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the pay figure you know and select what period it covers.
  2. Set your contracted hours per week and the number of paid weeks — 52 if holiday is paid, fewer if it is not.
  3. Read across the equivalents to compare offers on the same basis.

Example calculation

A $55,000 annual salary at 40 hours a week for 52 weeks:

Monthly = 55,000 ÷ 12 = $4,583

Weekly = 55,000 ÷ 52 = $1,058

Hourly = 55,000 ÷ 2,080 = $26.44.

What does this result mean?

Comparing offers on gross salary alone can mislead. A role paying 5% more but requiring 45-hour weeks may pay less per hour, and benefits such as pension matching, healthcare and paid leave frequently amount to 10–25% of salary. Convert everything to an hourly equivalent, then weigh the benefits separately.

Frequently asked questions

Is this take-home pay?
No. These are gross figures. Deductions vary far too much by country and personal circumstance to be estimated generically.
How many working hours are in a year?
The standard assumption is 2,080 — 40 hours across 52 weeks — before deducting public holidays and leave.
How should I handle unpaid leave?
Reduce the paid weeks per year. Someone paid for 48 weeks has a meaningfully higher hourly rate than the naive 52-week calculation suggests.
